Afro-Brazilian Dance Workshop with Dandha Da Hora

Da’African Village bringing Afro-Brazilian music, dance, culture on Feb. 23

LAS VEGAS – Da’African Village, a nonprofit dedicated to cultural exchange between the United States and Africa and the diaspora, in partnership with Africa Love Store, will present an Afro-Brazilian Dance Workshop with Dandha Da Hora Saturday February 23, 2019 at Rhythms Dance Studio and Event Center, 4545 W. Sahara Ave.

Dandha Da Hora, will help attendees learn the easy, fun and energetic techniques of Afro-Brazilian dance at a workshop from 10am-11:30am. Attendees are encouraged to dress in comfortable shoes and clothing to take advantage of all the event has to offer and to learn how to move to the rhythms of Africa and Brazil.

Born and raised in Salvador, Bahia, Dandha Da Hora has been a member of Ilê Aiyê, one of Brazil’s most important musical and cultural institutions, since she was 6 years old. A master dancer, as well as vocalist and percussionist, Dandha invokes the incredible spirit of Ilê Aiyê and Salvador, Bahia, each time she steps onstage.

As a lead dancer with Ilê Aiyê, Dandha toured internationally and has shared the stage with many of Brazil’s most renowned artists such as Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil and Daniela Mercury. In addition to performing with Ilê Aiyê and SambaDá, Dandha has performed with Casa Samba (New Orleans, LA), SambaDendê and Bateria Alegria (Boulder, CO), Banda Remelexo and Bahia Soul (Bay Area, CA).

Alongside a full touring schedule, Dandha also is a master dance teacher and teaches ongoing dance classes in Santa Cruz and the San Francisco Bay Area, as well as giving special workshops across the country. Whether she is teaching, dancing, singing, or playing an instrument, Dandha’s art always reflects her passion for sharing Afro-Brazilian culture, and she brings a message of hope, love, equality and freedom every time she performs.

Tickets for the dance workshop, which is produced by the nonprofit Da’African Village in partnership with Africa Love Store, can be purchased online at www.africalovestore.com. The Afro-Brazilian dance workshop is open to people of all ages and is $15 for adults who purchase tickets online, $20 at the door, and free for children 12 years or younger.

Established in 2014 as a “bridge of togetherness” between the United States and Africa, Da’African Village is a joint venture/collaborative network, specializing in cultural immersion, tourism, West African art and artifacts. Operating as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, the organization provides cultural tours, sponsors cultural exchange and youth development programs, and is building a cultural center in Senegal. It also supports local, grassroots efforts in Africa that develop sustainable communities by way of commerce, community involvement, musical performances, and education.

Africa Love opened in 2017 and is located inside Town Square Las Vegas. It features products from Senegal and across continental Africa, all the while focusing on conscientious and sustainable product development that helps support African-based artisans, their families, and their communities. Founded by world traveler, entrepreneur, and Senegalese-born native Serigne “Mara” Diakhate, the store is the first of its kind in Las Vegas and showcases all that Africa has to offer by way of music, fashion, customs, dialects and entertainment.
