On the eve of a recording date, John Chin brings his all Korean New York trio with bassist Lim Yang and drummer JK Kim premiering new works.

John Chin was raised in Los Angeles and currently lives in Brooklyn where he’s been a presence on the New York jazz scene since 1998. At 14 years old, he began his collegiate studies at California State University, Los Angeles where he earned a BA in music, studied at the University of North Texas, earned a Masters of Music degree from Rutgers in New Jersey under the tutelage of Kenny Barron, and an Artist Diploma from the world renowned Juilliard School.

Chin has made six albums as a leader—2008’s Blackout Conception, which featured saxophonist Mark Turner on four tracks; 2014’s Undercover; 2015’s Songs After Hours, a collection of pieces by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer John Harbison; in 2016 his critically acclaimed album, Fifth. During his time on tour with Rene Marie, Chin was nominated for a Grammy for his work on her latest release, Sound Of Red in 2017. In 2022 he released his album, Anything Mose! dedicated to the music of the late, Mose Allison; and in 2023 released his live pandemic era recording, Sun of Music: Live From the Lockdown.
