In 1998, Fugees singer and MC Lauryn Hill shook up the music world with a brilliant solo album that reflected on love, heartache, family, spirituality, individuality, nostalgia, Black womanhood and more. She famously rapped the lyrics “I treat this like my thesis / Well-written topic, broken down into pieces,” and truly that’s what The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is. It went on to become an all-time best-selling album, impacting and inspiring generations of artists, and for its 25th Anniversary, WXPN Local and World Cafe Live have curated an all-Philly tribute to this iconic album.

With the band Black Canvas playing Miseducation from start to finish on August 25th, the date it was released in 1998, this show will feature vocal performances by an array of Philadelphia soul and R&B talent, including Sinnia Brown, Jacqueline Constance, Jahwula and more.
