Introducing Stono Echo: hip-hop/soul duo comprised of DJ/producer, Paten Locke & musician/vocalist, Jay Myztroh

Introducing Stono Echo, a hip-hop/soul duo based out of Jacksonville, FL comprised of DJ/producer, Paten Locke & musician/vocalist, Jay Myztroh.

Their debut album, Black Diamonds is both a rousing call to action and thoughtful reflection on the American experience as a person of color. From the rugged blue collar anthem, ‘Workin’ to the interstellar introspective, ‘Outer Limits’, Black Diamonds is as socially aware as it is spiritual and is deeply rooted in the past, present & future. You could best classify the sound of Stono Echo as cosmic soul.

On December 19, 2017, Sneakersnstuff – One of the world’s leading sneaker boutiques for the last 20 years, with locations in Stockholm, London, Paris, and Berlin – held a private launch event to celebrate it’s first US location in New York City with a concept shop and bar – opening Wednesday, December 20, 2017 @ 11AM on 22 Little West 12th Street.

Notables include Nas, DJ Stretch Armstrong, DJ Chase B, Model Paloma Elsesser, Nicole Sky, Aaron Lacrate, Soul, Wiki, John Buscemi, Upscale Vandal

The 3,500-square-foot boutique, designed by Swedish Architect Jenny Askenfors of Bofink Design Studio, is located in the Meatpacking District.

The space accommodates multiple areas for artist and brand activations with the likes of Adidas Originals, Nike, New Balance, Reebok, Stussy, MadeMe, Reigning Champ, The North Face, Aries, and their own synonymous SNS brand, as well as wildly popular brand collaborations exclusive to Sneakersnstuff.

The bar, opening in early 2018, will be ran by some of Sweden’s most notable restaurateurs and will host both brand-activated events as well as nightly parties. Why Going to a Music Festival Can be an Amazing Experience

Why Going to a Music Festival Can be an Amazing Experience?

There are some people that have never been to a music festival before. Some don’t like the idea of being outside among hundreds of other people, while others don’t think that you can enjoy the music as much as an indoor gig. However, there is a lot more to music festivals than that; they can be an enjoyable and memorable event that you will remember for the rest of your life. Here are the reasons you should be attending music festivals.

The Music

Not surprisingly, the best thing about a music festival is the music. If your favorite artist is planning to play at a festival, then go along to see them. Many artists are amazing live and sometimes give the fans a taste of their new music before others hear it. It is also a great way to hear new and emerging bands. You will usually find them in the smaller stages around the festival. It is worth going to see as many of them as you can, as you might just find your new favorite.

Creating Memories

If you do decide to go to a festival, it is likely that you will take some friends along with you. The whole experience of camping out and watching live bands can be enthralling, and you and your group will be experiencing that together. There is something about spending time together in these situations that encourages fun and happiness. In years to come, you will surely list a festival as one of the top things you did in your life.

Sharing with Others

Just because one or two of your friends couldn’t go with you, doesn’t mean that they cannot enjoy the fun as well. With social media and apps like Skype and Facetime, you can share your moments with them live. You will also be taking lots of photos and videos to look back on later. Be sure to keep your camera and memory cards safe, as the weather can damage them. It would then be an anxious wait until you got home to get the data recovered. Company’s like Secure Data Recovery Services can recover the data for you so keep it safe until they can examine it.

Socializing and Making Friends

With so many people attending each festival, it is impossible not to meet new people. It might start with a mutual appreciation of certain music, and progress into a long-term friendship. The good thing about festivals is that everyone is there because they want to be. That makes the atmosphere special and means everyone is in a good mood. You may even find a group of people that you can tour the festivals with each year. Many such groups go to see their favorite bands this way.

There are many festivals taking place all over the world; they feature various forms of music that appeal to almost every taste. If you are thinking of attending your first festival, then don’t forget to take a good camera and a decent tent.

20 Years of Nordic Trax – Compilation Out Now

20 years of Nordic Trax marks a significant milestone for Luke McKeehan’s globally recognized house music label based out of Vancouver, Canada. The compilation is both retrospective and fresh featuring exclusive new tracks from an acclaimed label roster alongside a selection of Luke’s personal favourites.

Originally formed as an outlet for timeless material, the Canadian label has grown into a humble classic house institution, but gradually and strong– year by year, release by release. It has never allied itself with a scene or a sound, so the mind doesn’t automatically tether it to a specific place or time, the way many a house music sound has often pandered to.

Twenty years from its inception the label certainly doesn’t look its age with this guiding ethos continuing, says McKeehan whom for the past two decades has embraced taking risks on new unknown artists.

The goal of Nordic Trax has never been to be ‘on-trend’ or follow the pack — rather to put out timeless music that reflects what I’m hearing and how I’m feeling and let the chips fall where they may. In fact there’s a fairly decent list of projects I’ve passed on that have gone on to be hits. You can’t win them all, but I’m not interested in winning per se. This is a culture that has given me so much, and I feel obliged with our output to contribute with strictly quality music — not just flood all the channels with whatever I can sign.”

One of the compilation’s exclusive highlights comes from Mark Farina & Moulton Music’s Homero Espinosa who delivers a 2017 rework of US producer Alexander East’s “Believe En Me” – without question one the label’s best-selling & most iconic tracks. Before the catalogue is opened up to showcase many producers from Philly to Hawaii as well as break out tracks from UK talents including Cristoph, The Revenge, alongside brand new exclusives from Spain’s Nacho Marco, Jon Delerious and the prolific Gavin Froome — remixed by French producer Giom. Support of Nordic Trax’s most recent music continues to pour from the likes of Dixon, Skream, Joris Voorn, Luciano, Kenny Dope, DJ T, King Britt, Tensnake, Laurent Garnier, Danny Tenaglia, Fish Go Deep, Franck Roger, Jamie Jones, Dubfire and many more.

The result of such a carefully curated track list, plucked with love from such a wide array of output from lazy disco to chunkier sounds is a proudly personal album from one of the scene’s most structurally sound labels. A compilation that showcases not only the deep diversity of musical styles Nordic Trax has in its discography, but serves as a representation of the curvature in house music we all continue to enjoy.

Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah featuring Vic Mensa – Freedom Is A Word

1800 Tequila & Billboard Present “Refined Players” Documentary Series Featuring Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah & Vic Mensa

Five-Part Content Series Showcases Christian Scott’s Journey to Bring Together Five Jazz Artists to Collaborate with Vic Mensa on New Track

In partnership with 1800® Tequila, Billboard, the largest voice in music announces today, “Refined Players” – a five-part digital documentary series showcasing how five musical talents from all over the country were brought together in 3 days to record a new, refined sound.  The video series will launch today and is led by award-winning jazz musician Christian Scott, and features hip-hop artist Vic Mensa.

Through “Refined Players,” 1800 Tequila and Billboard followed Christian Scott on his discovery of diverse music talents and sounds from various cities including New Orleans, Chicago, Philadelphia, the Bay Area and New York. The artists were then combined into one new collective, and recorded a newly refined track, “Freedom is a Word,” a genre-bending exploration of hip-hop and jazz. The final track was previewed live on October 18 during an intimate event at Preservation Hall in New Orleans and will be released on Friday December 8th.

The “Refined Players” series, conceived by CP+B LA and executive produced by Billboard, captures the hard work, honesty and passion of Scott, Mensa and the rest of the Refined Players collective of Joe Dyson, Weedie Braimah, Joe Harley, Elena Pinderhughes and Derrick Hodge. It is the latest in a year-long showcase of musical collaborations from 1800 Tequila, the world’s first super-premium tequila.

At thirty-four years old and a native of New Orleans, Scott brings a unique perspective to the “Refined Players” project. As a jazz-trained, Grammy award winning musician, he designs his own instruments, has his own label imprint, and releases all of his new music via his own app, Stretch Music. Although he is a one-man tour-de-force, his music still remains a powerful influence within the industry.

Musically, it’s instinctual for me to pull in sonic influences from all over the world,” said Scott. “As a band leader and collaborator, it’s been an incredible journey to pull together individual talents from all over the country for the Refined Players project. Independently, each of us brings our own raw sound and creative energy into the mix. The final product is a true testament of hard work, collaboration and sonic diversity.”

Critically acclaimed rap all-star Vic Mensa recently released his long-awaited full-length debut album, Autobiography. Speaking to the generation of hip-hop’s wonder years, Mensa’s first solo album is comprised of confessional, confrontational and powerful messages. Mensa is currently touring with Jay-Z on his 4:44 tour, which opened up in Anaheim at the Honda Center on October 27.

Collaborating with 1800 Tequila and Christian Scott on this unique track has taken me back to where my music started,” said Mensa. “The marriage of jazz and hip hop has always inspired me and my music, so to be able to create with such a talented group of musicians has been invigorating and exciting for me.”
