Guru Out of Coma & On The Path of Recovery

Keith “Guru” Elam of the legendary hip hop duo Gangstarr, has awakened from coma and is said to be doing well. Unfortunately, the general public has been unaware of his progress due to the public battle between his family and Solar. While his state of health is still in question, he has been diagnosed with anoxia.

The term anoxia means a total decrease in the level of oxygen, an extreme form of hypoxia or “low oxygen”. Via

Guru has a long history of asthma and breathing problems which contributed to his cardiac arrest back in February. All we can do is wish for his health to continue to improve so he can straighten out this mess with his family and Solar.

March 22 is UN World Water Day: New Day Kids is raising money to bring clean water to E&K Orphanage School in Malawi

NDK Water Day

E&K Orphanage School is located in Mtsliza Village outside the capital of Malawi. There are currently 100 students and 9 teachers who do not have access to clean drinking water.

The school is expanding rapidly and there is need to improve learning and living conditions before accepting more students. The Water Board of Malawi already has existing pipes in the surrounding area. The project includes installing 2 taps for pipe water on the 2 acre property.

This project will provide clean water and sanitation for the students, faculty, staff and the teachers currently living on the property for generations to come.

Angelique Kidjo Collaborates with Peter Buffett to Support GirlsinAfrica

Emmy-award winning musician and philanthropist Peter Buffett has teamed up with UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and Grammy award-winning musician Angelique Kidjo to release “A Song For Everyone” . 100% of proceeds from the sale of the song will benefit the Batonga Foundation, an organization founded by Angelique to advance education for girls in Africa.

Every cent helps: 2 downloads buys a girl a math set; 3 downloads buys a girl lunch during the school day; 5 downloads buys a girl a textbook; 10 downloads buys a girl a school bag or uniform; and 1,000 downloads pays school fees for an entire classroom of 45 girls to go to school for a year!

The Batonga Foundation gives girls a secondary school and higher education so they can take leadership roles in Africa. They are doing this by granting scholarships, building secondary schools, increasing enrollment, improving teaching standards, providing school supplies, supporting mentor programs, exploring alternative education models, and advocating for community awareness of the value of education for girls by addressing gender prejudice.
