CUT CHEMIST to Launch Tunnel Vision West Coast Tour in August
CUT CHEMIST PRESENTS TUNNEL VISION WEST COAST COLLABORATIVE TOUR
This month, CUT CHEMIST returns to the road for his first headlining tour since releasing his 2006 debut album The Audience Is Listening. Dubbed the CUT CHEMIST PRESENTS TUNNEL VISION Tour, the master turntablist and producer will set off on a select run of West Coast dates starting August 16 at the House of Blues in Anaheim, CA and have him pass through Los Angeles, Seattle, San Francisco and San Diego, with additional dates TBA. TUNNEL VISION is a concept audio-visual performance that has been evolving for the last six years. Fresh off of his European tour, CUT will be performing new material via two turntables and two DVD turntables from his forthcoming album (title TBA) due out next year. He’ll also perform select classics including “Storm” which will feature TUNNEL VISION tour mates Edan and Mr. Lif live for the first time ever. For hip-hop purists, CUT will perform a special version of his one turntable, loop pedal, all-vinyl, African-inspired Sound Of The Police set within his show. Anyone familiar with his work from the past will notice that the material and show will be more punk and DIY than the “funky old school breaks” that people often try to hold him hostage to. Also, what makes this time out so special is that it will be a collaborative tour with music colleagues, Edan and Mr Lif. The three have all been recording music together for the past five years. Each will be performing their own show, but will also be featured in each other’s set as they have a long history of collaborations together throughout their careers. “We all share the same aesthetic and ethic in music making and how it should be presented in a performance,” says CUT CHEMIST. “Once doors open, we’ll hit the ground running,” says CUT, “as Mr Lif brings a high energy, classic style of emceeing that commands crowd involvement with theatrics and costume change. Edan will do his critically acclaimed performance seldom seen on the West Coast as he plays a Theremin, kazoo, acoustic guitar and raps through a delay pedal all while keeping the beat going on the turntables with his counter part Paten Locke trading off rhymes and beats so fast you almost can’t tell who is doing what. This is one of the best live rap performances I’ve ever seen.” Since The Audience is Listening, CUT CHEMIST has kept busy doing a year-long campaign for The Hard Sell with DJ Shadow, opening shows in Europe for Shakira‘s Oral Fixation tour and even doing cameos for director and friend Jason Reitman in Juno and Up In the Air. CUT CHEMIST is known for pushing the envelope of DJ culture by using multiple turntables and all forms of media, digital and even vinyl. His shows are accompanied by live cut-and-paste visuals by his video director Tom Fitzgerald, co-curator of LA’s own repertory movie theater Cinefamily and director of Edan’s hip-hop electro punk mix DVD Echo Party.
