BerettaMusic’s monthly “BerettaMusic and Friends” residency at Spkrbox rolls on! Thanks to all who have been supporting our shows, they have been packed with great people and great music. With that, we are excited to announce our December guest, Milan Ariel Atkins!

Milan Ariel is a Detroit-born singer, songwriter, and performer whose music fuses hip-hop, techno, and nu-soul, reflecting the city’s rich musical heritage. The daughter of Detroit techno icon Juan Atkins, she grew up immersed in electronic and funk sounds, later blending these influences with pop and R&B to craft her unique style. Her journey began with childhood songwriting, inspired by idols like Aaliyah and Erykah Badu, and evolved through her studies at Wayne State University, where she merged music with business acumen. Milan’s debut EP, Love Dreams, showcased her artistry, while her Twelve Moons music film series in 2017 solidified her as a multifaceted creator, blending music and cinematography.

Milan has since become a dynamic force in the music scene, performing original songs at Detroit’s iconic venues and festivals like Movement. During the Covid-19 pandemic, she embraced her role as a DJ, adding techno-infused live sets to her repertoire. Known as the “Princess of Techno,” Milan remains committed to her mission of uniting mainstream pop with underground electronica. Her artistry not only celebrates her roots but also inspires others, particularly African American women, to pursue success through determination and education. With new mixes and original tracks on the horizon, Milan Ariel continues to innovate and thrive.
