Earlier this year, her most recent albumThe Returner (Fantasy Records), won a GRAMMY for “Best American Roots Performance” and the album racked up nominations for Best Americana Album, Best American Roots Song and Best Americana Performance. With 4 previous nominations, this brings Russell’s career-total to 8 GRAMMY nominations and one win in just three short years.
Russell is currently supporting Hozier on his Unreal Unearth Tour, with dates throughout May, June, July, August and September of 2024, including four nights at Forest Hills Stadium in New York and three nights at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. Hozier appears on Allison Russell’s new album, singing on the closing track “Requiem,” and she also appears on his hit EP where the two duet on the single “Wildflower & Barley,” which debuted in the Billboard Hot 100. She also supported on his UK and Ireland tour earlier this year. She will also support on select dates for Tyler Childers and Sarah McLachlan this summer as well as play multiple festivals including Newport Folk Festival and Pilgrimage Music Festival. The accolades for Russell have been immense. In addition to her 8 GRAMMY nominations and one win, she has earned three 2022 Americana Award nominations and a win for Album of the Year with subsequent nominations in 2023 and 2024, two International Folk Music Award wins, a 2022 Juno nomination for ‘Songwriter of the Year,’ and her first-ever Juno Award win for Contemporary Roots Album of the Year. Russell won three Canadian Folk Music Awards, two UK Americana Music Awards, and more. In addition, Russell has consistently used her newfound platform to elevate, educate and inspire; curating the history making Once And Future Sounds: Roots and Revolution set for the Newport Folk Festival in 2021 and mobilizing this year’s triumphant Love Rising All-Star benefit concert in support of LGBTQIA+ causes in Nashville – raising over $550,000 and calling national attention to Tennessee’s dangerous anti-trans and anti-drag laws. Russell has also announced a book deal with Flatiron/MacMillan for her debut novel, a memoir based on her life and the material that inspired Outside Child and The Returner.
