Quincy Jones’ Qwest TV Launch New Music Docu-Series “One Night Stand”
Quincy Jones’ Qwest TV and Creator Leslie Lyons Present:
ONE NIGHT STAND
A New Music Docu-series That Brings the Human Thrill of Connection to Music Television
The music streaming platform from Quincy Jones will premiere One Night Stand, a show that pairs independent musicians together in a moment of genre fusing collaboration and cultural exchange. Two artists are curated for each episode. They do not know who they will be paired with and there is no rehearsal, no live audience. One Night Stand is a titillating and surprising affair where musicians are free from any expectation or commitments.
”As both a fan and creator within the music industry,” says longtime music photographer & writer, Leslie Lyons: “My hope is that we create something just as exciting for the musicians as it is for the audience.”
The launch episode will feature ‘promising young composer’ David Amram, along with singer-songwriter Cheyenne Mize. Amram, who will be 92 years old on the day the show premieres, combats ageism by staying as relevant today as he was when he played with Dizzy Gillespie in the 1950’s or as the first composer in residence at the New York Philharmonic in the 1960s.”I took a nap in 1957 and it gave me terrible headache,” jokes Amram.
The surprising dynamics from one episode to the next will lead to relationship status between an audience and the show. In contrast to the more classical, singer-songwriter first episode, the second episode will feature the charismatic global music stylings of Seun Kuti and drum prodigy Kojo Roney. Kuti is the son of Nigerian Afro Jazz innovator Fela Kuti and is at the helm of Egypt 80 touring globally. Roney, who just turned 18, is already a band leader of the Kojo Roney Experience presenting the newest sounds of jazz and rock. Ten-time Grammy nominated artist Meshell Ndegeocello is to be featured on an upcoming episode in 2023 along with other surprising guests.
“We are very happy to share with you this fresh new series of unique encounters & magical moments out of time, but still on the beat! Qwest TV, the video hub where great musicians meet!” adds Qwest TV’s Head of Programming and Acquisitions, Thomas Bouet.
QWEST TV will air one episode of One Night Stand per month beginning November. 17. More info about how to watch Qwest TV at https://www.qwest.tv/.
The first Episode of One Night Stand was filmed at Joe’s Pub in NYC. The second and currently scheduled upcoming Episodes will be created at National Sawdust in Brooklyn, NY.
