Provocative Artist Tyler Hicks Joins Forces with Fundrboogie for a Revolutionary Crowdfunding Campaign
Limited Transit Art Currency debuts with fully loaded, original work from Hicks that is sure to incite discussion
LOS ANGELES – July 6, 2015 – fundrboogie, the world’s first crowdfunding site for the Hip-Hop community, proudly announces its partnership with Los Angeles-based artist Tyler Hicks. Hicks’ original work “Open Season” is the first work in fundrboogie’s Transit Art Currency project. This project, based on an original idea generated by fundrboogie founder Randy Nkonoki-Ward and pioneering artist Rammellzee, presents upcoming artists’ work in a new and unexpected medium: on transit currency.
Furthermore, the campaign seeks to raise money for the production of the art currency and to generate discussion and social awareness through both its medium and featured work. Hicks’ work perfectly represents this goal. A piercing juxtaposition of assault rifles hidden among leaves, “Open Season” is both a personal and political artwork for Hicks. “As I’ve processed local and national events, ‘Open Season’ has been a means of both meditation for me and a critical commentary on the violence and heavy policing of communities of color in this country,” Hicks says.
“Social engagement such as Hicks’ is a perfect representation of both the Transit Art Currency project and fundrboogie’s vision of creative activism,” Nkonoki-Ward says. “We’re excited about our launch on July 7, and we feel that this partnership with Tyler is a great way to officially introduce fundrboogie to the world.”
