San Jose Jazz Winter Fest February 14.-29, 2020
The “cool” counterpart to San Jose Jazz Summer Fest, Winter Fest presents jazz, blues, Latin jazz, New Orleans and more in intimate venues in San Jose and Palo Alto from February 14 to 29, 2020.
San Jose Jazz has announced their full lineup of 20 concerts which include top established jazz artists like vocalist Shayna Steele, pianist Aaron Goldberg, vocalist Stacey Kent and saxophonist Miguel Zenón; up-and-coming artists such as pianist Yuko Mabuchi, pianist Arnie Co and bassist Mikailo Kasha; plus some exceptional bands that defy categorization including the New Orleans group The Revelers, modern jazz/hip-hop group The Lique and the cross-genre Korean group Black String. Among this stacked lineup, here are a couple of standouts:
Called “the vanguard of the Louisiana cultural renaissance” The Revelers dig deep into the dancehall traditions of Southwest Louisiana and emerges with an arsenal it calls “Louisiana Jukebox Music” that blurs the lines between Cajun, country, zydeco, blues and “swamp pop.” The group takes the Poor House Bistro Studio stage on Friday, February 14 at 8pm.
2018 Summer Fest artist Aaron Abernathy is a rising pianist/singer with a style rooted in gospel and the organic, acoustic soul of the early ’70s. Frequent collaborator of hip-hop artist Black Milk, Abernathy has created a stir with his latest solo album, Epilogue. Abernathy returns to the Cafe Stritch stage on Friday, February 21 at 8pm.
