The J Dilla Tribute aka DC Love Dilla Concert honors the late, great Hip-Hop and musical beatsmith, James Dewitt Yancey/Jay Dee. Haven't been to one?... Shame on you, especially if you're a Hip-Hop head. Let's explain. Each year, members of Dilla's musical family, alongside a crazy assortment of talent weave their lyrical offerings within Dilla's music - performed by 12 piece band, J Laine & The Players. We're talkin' samplers & horn section too folks.
The Pharcyde, Dwele, Phife Dawg [A Tribe Called Quest], Slum Village, Talib Kweli, Pete Rock, Ma Dukes and more. Plus hand-picked area faves like Raheem Devaughn, Asheru, Maimouna Youssef, Wes Felton, Kev Brown, Diamond District, Gods'illa etc. Have all blessed the stage.
In 2006 J Dilla passed from complications with Lupus. Portion of proceeds benefit The J Dilla & Lupus Foundations.
