In America, there are rappers that sip on gin and juice, while others pass around Courvoisier. Some rappers drive Cadillacs, some get driven in limos and an elite few fly in private jets. For rappers in Slovenia, the ride is more likely to be a broken down Yugo and the late night indulgence a shot of Slivovitz with a deliciously greasy serving of burek. In a genre where artists work to define the culture around them through intricate rhymes and inescapable hooks, the rappers of the Republic of Slovenia are no exception. Documenting the cultural uprising that paved the way for hip hop to form in the country, the film showcases the musicians who maintain one unwritten principle: there’s no room for restraints when speaking about the nation.
