w/ DJ Mr.E on the decks

Hailed as Detroit's "Best Kept Secret", Elzhi, formerly of Slum Village, returns to Oakland on Friday, August 3rd, for an exclusive performance at The New Parish in Oakland as part of his summer world tour supporting the release of his second solo studio album with local powerhouse MC, Locksmith as support.

Coming up in the Detroit scene, and rapping at The Hip-Hop Shop in Detroit at open mics hosted by the late Proof, and along with emcees Obie Trice, Phat Kat, Guilty Simpson, Royce da 5'9, D 12, One Be Lo, Eminem and the late J Dilla. Elzhi is most remembered for memorable verses on Slum Village albums, but also for his 2008 solo release "The Preface." In 2011, he dropped an Illmatic-inspired album titled "Elmatic" which was heaped with critical praise. Elzhi appears on most MCs' list of their favorite MCs. Elzhi's unique cadence, verbal prowless and versatility on a wide array of beats, makes him a phenomenal artist.

Bay Area's Locksmith first gained prominence in 2003 with his aggressive emceeing in the battle rap circuit where he has since resurfaced in recent years, leveling challengers. In between, his group Frontline made waves with the help of industry vet, E-A-Ski who took the group under his wing. But Lock isn't just a battle MC. His most recent releases, Embedded, a collaborative EP with super producer SkiBeatz and full length, Labrynth have re-introduced Lock to the world as a lyrical force to be reckoned with. His delivery, cadence and content are nothing short of brilliant showing off an MC skillset that is unmatched locally and almost extinct globally.
