Discover What it Sounds Like When Talent Meets Love
Sidibe. Seedy-bay. CD-bae. Any way you say it, there is no denying that the Senegal-Louisiana bred Sidibe is a musical wonder. Her latest EP You Got the Luck is out now and is all the proof you need.
Singer/songwriter Sidibe first introduced us to her latest project with her singles “Maybe”, “I’m Only Dreaming” and “You Wanna Love Everybody”. “I’m Only Dreaming” was hand picked by Prince as his Purple Pick of the week and included in his personally curated playlist. As it turns out, this was Prince’s last cosign before his tragic passing. Sidibe is unsure how Prince discovered her song. She said, “I am an independent artist with no PR team, so how we connected musically will always be a mystery to me. Nobody sent him my music. Maybe he saw my feature on Okayplayer. I’ll never know. But just knowing that Prince loved my music is the greatest gift I have ever received. I only wish that I could have thanked him for that and for the endless inspiration he has given us all. Like the rest of the world, I miss his presence.”
There is no mystery behind Sidibe’s EP You Got the Luck. It represents the culmination of a musical journey for Sidibe that included years of writing, digging deep into musical vaults and travels to Senegal where she connected with family and culture. Sidibe shared this about her experiences in Senegal, “After leaving my deal with Universal, I reached a low point. Then one day I woke from a dream where I saw myself in Africa and I knew I had to go. My time in Senegal resulted in a rebirth for me and I came back ready to take control of my creative process. I began believing in myself as much as other people had.”
Another turning point in Sidibe’s journey was the relationship she formed with Finnish producer Nico Stadi. Although they came from opposite sides of the world, they instantly connected over their shared love of R&B, soul, funk, jazz and all things Michael Jackson and Prince.
For You Got the Luck, Sidibe and Nico Stadi brought in Grammy winning producers Warryn Campbell and Jack Splash. Sidibe describes the project as a true labor of love, “I didn’t have a budget and that was a challenge. But I was surrounded by supremely talented people and that was a blessing. We recorded in borrowed studios. My friends gifted me with their incredible talents on bass, guitar, sax, flute and strings. All along the way, generous people stepped up and offered to help just because they believed in me and the music. I will always be grateful. And I think that in the end, the music is better because it came from such a place of authenticity, joy and love.”
Already Sidibe has heard descriptions of You Got the Luck that range from euphoric to other-worldly. Most find it difficult to find a single genre that describes the seven songs on the EP. Sidibe explains, “I don’t think about genres. I just create from the most honest place I can find. I consider it planetary music because I want it to reach people around the planet.” About the vocals, Sidibe said, “I am a five octave vocalist and my voice is my instrument. You Got the Luck gives people an opportunity to experience the range and dynamics of my voice.”
Push play and take a 30 minute aural excursion. After just one listen, you will know that you have the luck.

J DILLA’S LONG LOST 2002 VOCAL ALBUM THE DIARY OUT THIS WEEK ON PAYJAY/MASS APPEAL RECORDS
LISTEN TO PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED ITUNES BONUS TRACK “THE SICKNESS feat. NAS (PRODUCED BY MADLIB)”:
PREORDER THE DIARY WITH TWO BONUS TRACKS EXCLUSIVELY ON ITUNES: http://found.ee/JDillaTheDiary
This Friday J Dilla‘s longstanding company PayJay (revived by The Estate of James Yancey as a functioning imprint) have partnered with Mass Appeal Records to release Dilla’s long lost vocal album, The Diary. Initially intended for release in 2002, The Diary was shelved by its parent label, which led to Yancey’s break with the major label system and instigated his migration to California to embark on the extremely fertile period that followed (which encompassed the making of the canonical classics Ruff Draft, Jaylib, and Donuts).
The Diary was Dilla’s chance to step out from behind the production console and flex his distinctive vocal talents, calling on the auspicious production talents of Madlib, Pete Rock, Hi-tek, Nottz, House Shoes, Supa Dave West, Bink! and Karriem Riggins. The record also carries vocal spots by Snoop Dogg, Bilal, Kokane, Frank and Dank, Nottz, and Boogie.
The Diary in this, its final form, was painstakingly assembled over a ten year period from two-track mixdowns and multi-track masters found in J Dilla’s archives after his death in 2006. The completion of The Diary was overseen by The Estate of James Yancey’s Creative Director Eothen Alapatt, long term general manager of Stones Throw Records and A&R for Donuts and Jaylib, whose previous archival Dilla work includes the expanded Ruff Draft reissue from 2008. The Estate of James Yancey is overseen by California’s Probate Court on behalf of Yancey’s four heirs – his mother, Maureen “Madukes” Yancey, his brother John “Illa J” Yancey and his two daughters, Ja’Mya Yancey and Ty-monae Whitlow.

GigCave offers free dynamic EPK creation and hosting, along with a groundbreaking mentoring program
GigCave announced that after just over one year, its free, cloud-based platform that enables musicians to create, manage, and host electronic press kits (EPKs) is now being used by 35,000 artists.
The appeal of GigCave is threefold:
- GigCave provides an easily accessible, central location for EPKs where music industry gatekeepers can easily see, hear, and learn more about a band or musician.
- GigCave gives musicians the power to control their brands, manage their careers, present their best image to potential hirers, and get paid for what they love to do – play music.
- As part of its premium membership, GigCave provides a mentorship program that allows musicians to communicate one-on-one with leading industry professionals who can provide advice ranging from songwriting tips to improving live performances.
The platform has filled an important niche and resonates with musicians. According to GigCave CEO and creator Anthony Tedesco, “we created GigCave because we knew that musicians needed a way to better control their careers and find their audiences.”
He added, “While we initially set up GigCave as an American platform, we’ve been buoyed by the fact that musicians from countries as far away as Germany, China, and Brazil are discovering the benefits of using GigCave.”
He added that GigCave now hosts approximately 10,000 EPKs. Having a well-designed, informative EPK is important for every musician, allowing artists to tell their stories and create connections in the industry.
One artist who has embraced the GigCave platform is musician Brandon Jeffries, who goes by the stage name of ICE. Jeffries is a musician who believes in the soul of music and does not want the business aspects to take too much time away from his art. Jeffries, an early user of GigCave, has had his EPK there since April of 2015 and attributes some of his increased reach this year to the platform.
Jeffries said, “I’ve always set out to have my music speak for itself. GigCave helps me expand my audience and enables me to better control the performances we schedule.”
GigCave, accessible online at GigCave , is an easy-to-use, cloud-based platform where musicians can manage their EPKs and tap into a mentoring program that allows them one-on-one access to knowledgeable industry professionals.
Free to all users is GigCave’s EPK-creating tools, which allow musicians to easily create attention-grabbing materials to convey their stories, images, attitudes and sounds. GigCave enables musicians to combine photos, bios, music and video clips into a complete package, presenting a professional image to managers, club owners, agents, music critics, and festival organizers.
GigCave’s innovative mentoring program is one of the premium features that sets it apart. This program allows musicians to tap into a network of industry pros for help with a wide range of issues, such as songwriting tips, ways of improving live performances, and getting the most out of studio recording sessions. GigCave has Grammy Award-winning musicians, accomplished writers, and classical powerhouses available to provide guidance to program participants.
GigCave is designed for all artists. According to Tedesco, “We’re seeing a large array of different genres on GigCave, which is what we set out to do. We created GigCave to benefit any and every musician. No matter what genre you consider yourself, what size and type of venue you play at, how far along you are in your career, GigCave can help you further your career and succeed in the music industry. We built GigCave to be as helpful as possible to artists of all kinds. We hope that artists of all sorts will take advantage of the opportunity to create their free press kits and get invaluable advice from our mentors.”

If you’re after what can be considered the ultimate festival experience, a music festival in Reykjavík has just revealed a one-off ticket sure to blow anyone’s mind. However, you’re going to need some pretty deep pockets to experience it.
Iceland’s Secret Solstice Festival made headlines in 2015 for offering up a $200,000 festival ticket for only two people – at the time, the most expensive festival ticket on Earth. Obviously intent on outdoing themselves, they’ve gone all-out in 2016 with a festival ticket that’s now on sale for the princely sum of $1 million USD. And no, that’s not a typo.
For that cash, you get a return flight in a private business jet from anywhere on the planet for you and five other guests, 24/7 access to two private luxury cars (including drivers and security) for a week in Iceland, two private concerts by prominent Icelandic musicians, helicopter transfers, complete access to the main Secret Solstice 2016 event, a private aerial tour of Iceland, access to the world’s first (and already sold out) concert inside the dormant magma chamber of a volcano, access to the world’s only party inside a glacier, private access to Iceland’s world-famous Blue Lagoon reserved for only your travel party, and so much more.
The international music festival is already boasting some world-class names on their general bill, though there will be two performances that only the purchaser of this ultra-premium ticket will be able to attend.
Part of the million-dollar ticket are two private performances during the buyer’s time in Iceland, by two different prominent Icelandic acts. Although both artist’s names are yet to be announced, one will entail an intimate show at the Reykjavík residence in which the guests will be staying, the other being a special show in the middle of an Icelandic lava field, of course with helicopter transfers to the location.
Despite the extraordinary nature of the million dollar festival ticket Secret Solstice is offering, the event itself is already extremely special. Held over the summer solstice weekend in Iceland, the sun never fully sets over the entire event weekend, due to Iceland’s close proximity to the Arctic Circle. The incredible never-ending daylight has already resulted in the four-day event being called the most unique festival on Earth by several media outlets.
Of course, more reasonably-priced tickets are on sale for people with more modest budgets, starting at 24,900 Icelandic krona (approx. £143/$202/€177) for a full festival pass, or 34,900 Icelandic krona (approx. £200/$283/€249) for a VIP pass to the entire event.
Full details on the world’s most expensive festival ticket can be found at secretsolstice.is.
Secret Solstice is an Icelandic music festival that is being held for the third time on June 16-19, 2016 in the city of Reykjavík. It showcases both established artists as well as exciting up-and-coming talent over the course of four days in the 24 hour midnight sun during the summer solstice. It‘s themed after the Norse religion and mythology of old. It‘s set to deliver a unique party atmosphere filled with great entertainment.
